It is a building of military character that was built following gothic style by
order of King Alfonso XI.
Here the Catholic Kings resided approximately 8 years, during the period of the Spanish Reconquest.
It was here where King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella received Columbus prior to his voyage to the Americas.
In the Beginning...
Rafael Alcázar y Diago, was born on 19 September 1907. He was the son of Sr. Don Vicente Alcázar y Araneta, and Sra. Doña Josefa Diago y Gonzalez (picture below). His paternal grandfather was Francisco Alcázar of Cadiz, Spain. His maternal grandmother was Damasa Araneta of Iloilo, Iloilo. His maternal grandfather was Clemente Diago of Fuendejalón, Spain, and Vicenta Gonzalez of Bais, Negros Oriental. He passed away on 5 August 2005, five days shy of his 65th wedding anniversary.

Socorro Alcázar y Vila, was born on July 18, 1915. She was the daughter of Don Heriberto Vila y Gonzalez, and Doña Josefina Ponciano y Triumfante. She present lives with her daughter Maria Schatz in Sunnyvale, California.

Rafael and Socorro met in Dumaguete City. He was working as a civil engineer for the city. She was in Dumaguete because her father was an Internal Revenue agent assigned in the province of Negros Oriental and took his family along whenever he got a transfer.
